The Ford HBCU Community Challenge Helps Students Tackle Real World Problems

The Ford HBCU Community Challenge challenges teams of students from historically black colleges and universities students to design a project that focuses on solving critical needs in their community. Teams then partner with a local non-profit agency to develop a proposal that advances the project.

Three top teams are brought to Dearborn, Michigan so they can present their ideas to a panel of Ford executives who also serve as mentors. The winning team takes home $75,000 in scholarships, while the other two teams receive funding for their programs.

Pamela Alexander, director, community development, Ford Motor Company Fund, was quoted as stating, "Ford's commitment to education at HBCU's helps to enable and empower students by increasing college accessibility and opportunity, and addresses affordability through our scholarships, awards and other learning opportunities."
